Stay Consistent and Recognize Reciprocity

Blessings Fam! This week’s Orisa Prayer and Meditation message comes from Orisa Oko, who I don’t think gets nearly enough love and attention. Oko is the cultivator of the earth, the divine farmer who nourishes us with all of the food crops, and who helps us sow and reap abundance in our lives. In the story I shared, things were going very well for Oko until he stopped being consistent in his offerings to the Earth, who supports us all. As a result of letting things slip and slide, Oko found himself homeless and out in the wilderness.

As disorienting as this was, the forest had some gifts to share and, while there, Oko found some new plants for food and medicine that he was able to come back and share with humanity. So even as he was exiled, he was still blessed and able to be a blessing to others.

Lots of lessons here, as always, the primary one being to remain consistent in our prayers and offerings. As I shared in our Monday Motivation session, consistency doesn’t mean we have to do something all day every day, but whatever cycle we commit to — be it once a day, once a week, once a month, once a year — we are challenged to honor those agreements with ourselves. Also, know that even when we are in the wilderness moments of life where we may feel disoriented and alienated from what we know, there are still blessings to be gained in that space if only we keep ourselves open to receiving them.

As well, we’re reminded that we can always pick back up where we may have let anything drop. Don’t beat yourself up if you fall off, just dust off, recommit and begin again. Ifa says it is bit by bit we eat the head of the rat, bit by bit we eat the fish, so take everything a moment at a time and give yourself grace.

Our card for the week from the Chalks of Kikongo oracle deck is Reciprocity, which aligns perfectly with our lesson. Give and take is the law of life, so be sure you’re giving where you’re meant to give and receiving as you’re meant to receive. Allowing people to give to us as we give to them is an important part of the reciprocity cycle, so be sure your arms are open to receive all that you deserve.

Crystal ally, amber, encourages us to examine our patterns and to recognize which ones serve us and which ones don’t. What stories are you telling yourself? Are they empowering or discouraging? Whatever we consistently speak over ourselves is what we ultimately embody, so work to ensure the voice in your head is an inspiring one!

May these messages and lessons resonate with you whenever you connect with them! Ase!
