03 Jul Trust, Believe, Let Trials Become Triumph!
Alaafia Fam! How do feel when volcanoes start erupting in your life? When the metaphorical lava begins to flow? When the heat turns up in ways you hadn’t anticipated or prepared for? If you’re like most of us, you might feel aggravated, anxious, down, depressed, or any number of negative emotions. This week’s Orisa Prayer and Meditation message from Aganju encourages us to stay cool and. to trust and believe that the eruptions in our lives will lead to creation and growth for us.
Aganju is an orisa who is less discussed, but wonderful to connect with, especially when going through trials. Some legends cite him as Sango’s brother, some as his father. In either instance he, like Sango, wields the power of fire and is represented by the volcano, the desert and other heat-extreme environments. He is said to help us through the extremes in our lives and to help goodness come to us in their wake, just as beautiful vegetation grows on land formed by volcanic activity like Hawaii and the Galapagos Islands.
In a story of Aganju from the odu ose osa, he is ferrying people across the river to the spiritual realm, as was one of his jobs, and he fell into the water. Although a ferryman, he was not able to swim and he began to panic and believe he would drown. He splashed and sank, splashed and sank some more. Just as he resolved himself to his fate, Osun came to the rescue and placed an oar in the water for him to grab and climb back into the boat. He was saved! From that time forward til now, he was grateful to Osun and has a special relationship with her.
Lots of lessons! One of the most important one being to have faith that, in times of trouble, spirit comes through to pick us up and help pull us to the other side. Just when we feel like things are at their most dire, spirit puts an oar in the water to help us get back onboard. The fact that we’re each still here is a testament to that. Trust and believe that, just like Osoosi’s arrow that must be pulled back to launch forward, any setbacks you face will ultimately help move you forward, and that your scorched earth will produce rich soil in which newness can grow.
The King of Cups comes through with our message for the week reiterating the importance of taking charge of our emotions and not letting them get the best of us. While it’s important to feel, its also important to ensure we don’t let what we’re feeling cause us to act out in unproductive ways. At the same time, stifling what we feel can also cause problems, so finding the balance is key.
Amazonite, our crystal ally, ushers good vibes like luck and success into our midst. Sometimes called the “gambler’s stone” amazonite is said to bring fortune and help us tune out negative frequencies. It’s also reminiscent of water in color, so the omi tutu (cool water) vibes are heavy this week.
May these messages and lessons resonate with you whenever you connect with them! Ase!
