03 Dec Keep On Movin’, Joy Comes in the Morning
Bless up Family! Show of hands, who done been through some things? I know everybody’s hand should be up because we all have! This week’s Orisa Prayer and Meditation message encourages us to keep going even when it feels like we’re up against insurmountable odds.
The story, which came from ose meji, told of a time when Osun and Sango were married and living a lovely life high in a palm tree with their child. Sadly, one day a gale force wind came through and knocked down the tree, destroying their home and killing their child. As distraught as they were, they had no choice but to build a new home elsewhere and they found themselves at the top of an almond tree. This home was also destroyed and they moved again, this time to the top of a ceiba tree. The next home was wrecked as well and they were forced to move yet again. It was in their fourth home, which they built at the base of a pine tree, that they ultimately made their life: their businesses grew, they had many more children, and they were able to live happily and find their joy.
So many lessons! One is a reminder of the proverb tibi tire la da ile aiye (it is loss and gain that make the world), which highlights the fact that no matter who we are, how powerful we are, how blessed we are, we will still experience hardship at some point in our lives. It’s not what happens to us, but how we respond that will determine if we’re able to turn tragedy into triumph.
Another point to highlight here is that sometimes we’ve gotta recognize what’s not for us and change up what we’re doing. Osun and Sango clearly enjoyed living in the tops of trees (can’t beat that view!) but on the ground is where they found their success and happiness. If you find that you’re repeating the same patterns and getting the same undesired results, it might be time to do something different so you can connect with your joy! Get into our statement for the week:
Keep on Movin’, Joy Comes in the Morning!
Our card of the week, the hanged man, comes in with an aligned message that encourages us to slow down and see things from a new perspective. Is there a pattern we’re stuck in? Is there something we’re missing? The hanged man prompts us to ease (not rush!) into a different state of mind where we can see things with more clarity.
Black tourmaline, our crystal ally, helps us to block and deflect the more challenging energies that come our way. Just because we know hard times will come doesn’t mean we just have to take it! We have spiritual tools to help us, so let’s use them. While we’re using them, though, remember that no tool replaces our good sense, so think things through, uphold your boundaries, and move how spirit directs.
I pray this message resonates with you whenever you connect with it!
