Keep Your Word — especially to Yourself! (Recharge Day 2)

Alaafia Family! Have you ever gone back on an agreement you made? It has happened to the best of us at some point in our lives but, if we have iwa pele (humble and gentle character), we aim to always keep our word. This week’s story from osa meji reminds us that one reason to keep our agreements is that the cost of breaking them might be greater than we bargained for.

The story tells of the time when the iyami (primordial mothers) were coming to earth along with eniyan (human) and eye (birds). The iyami agreed to protect and look over human beings so long as they agreed not to disturb the birds, who the iyami have great fondness for and who they’re said to embody. Eniyan agreed to the terms.

At first, human beings kept their word and everything went well. But one day they got hungry and decided the birds looked appetizing and they killed and ate some of them. When the iyami discovered what had happened, they were so angry that they withdrew their protection from human beings which is why, it is said, people often have more hardship in our lives than we might like.

Lots of lessons here! The first of which being that it’s hard to control the outcome when we change terms and conditions we’ve agreed to. Others are also free to change theirs as well, and we might not like what their changes mean for us. We’re always free to shift, but it’s important to ensure it’s worth it.

There’s also a word here about self-sabotage and how it creeps in. Often the agreements we’re not keeping are the ones to ourselves, even when we know not doing so will be detrimental. Eniyan didn’t want to end up with more hardship, but they (we!) gave into impulse. Don’t let momentary impulses derail you as you’re moving along your destined path– keep your word to yourself first.

Our card of the week, the 7 of pentacles, speaks to assessment and taking stock of everything around us, making sure that we’re not overlooking valuable tools and talents. It reminds us to be patient and remember that we don’t plant the seed and eat the fruit the same day.

I pulled this card with the intention of it guiding us through our recharge this week, so keep this in mind as you review the other insights that arise for you. You’re lighting up the Facebook group and IG Channel! Keep sharing your Recharge reflections! You’ve also had wonderful feedback about Iya Timil’s recharge-opening moon message, check it out if you haven’t!

Labradorite, our crystal ally, helps us to find the magic within. It reminds us that there is divine ase at play in addition to the practical and technical things that we are doing towards our success. Make sure you’re tapping into your spirit and not just your mind as you move towards your goals.

I pray this message resonates with you whenever you connect with it!
